Stop overthinking your maternity photos!
There is something about a woman unafraid to bear herself to the world without makeup and perfectly styled hair. When it comes to your maternity portraits, I highly recommend the “less is more” practice.
Instead of perfectly styled and fake wind-blown dresses, embrace the natural beauty of womanhood and pregnancy with confidence. Because you are nothing but gorgeous - especially during this time of your life.
When Claire walked into her maternity session with her hair still damp, natural curl wild, and a completely bare face asking if this was ok, I was elated! There is a certain kind of beauty and honesty that makeup always filters, blocking our soul’s truth from being seen by the camera.
As we began her maternity session, Claire relaxed on the floor, seeking relief from the aches and pains of the last trimester.
This pregnancy had been one of unusual challenges, including battling breast cancer which triggered a number of issues including gestational diabetes.
These challenges, and the larger battle she would soon be facing after delivery, made her look at her body differently, with greater awe and appreciation.
She embraced her surgical scar and her port as symbols of her strength through the chaos of life, focusing on the joy of a new baby soon arriving.
As she stretched out in comfort across the floor, through my camera I was privileged to see a so much of this strength and beauty.
We did not pose or direct these moments – we simply enjoyed being in the moment, capturing the casual and wild beauty naturally present in women.
