Capturing Sacred Moments: A Baptism at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Colleyville, Texas

I had the privilege of documenting the baptism of the Bravo family’s sweet little baby, Cecilia, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Colleyville, Texas. As a photographer, it is an experience that filled my heart with so much joy and I was honored to witness this beautiful blend of faith and family.

Despite the cold outside that day, Good Shepherd was filled with warmth and love as families gathered together, their hearts brimming with joy as they prepared to witness this sacred event, the first sacrament. This was not just a personal event for the Bravo family; it was a celebration of faith, love, and community.

As the ceremony began, I focused my lens on the details that make these events so very special.

The priest’s words echoed through the church, enveloping everyone in faith and the significance of baptism in their lives. The baptismal font, a simple yet profound element of the ritual, became the focal point of the ceremony as each family came down to receive their blessings, one at a time.

Rick & Vicky came to the font with their girls, as extended friends and family watched closeby. Cecilia was dressed in a beautiful baptismal gown adorned with mundillo, a traditional handspun bobbin lace made in Puerto Rico. Cecilia’s God parents, beamed with pride to be entrusted with the commitment to mentoring and nurturing her faith.

As holy water gently poured water over the baby’s head and a cross of chrism oil traced on the crown of Cecilia's head, anointing her as a member of the catholic church, I captured the expressions of family members—tears of joy, smiles of pride, and moments of reverence. Each image captured was a testament to the sacredness of the occasion.

It was important to document not just the baptism itself, but the connections and bonds that were evident among the family members. These interactions added depth to the narrative of the day, showcasing the love that surrounded this little one and their celebration of faith. These images serve as a reminder that moments of faith are best experienced in the company of loved ones..

Documentary photography is about more than just capturing images; it’s about telling a real, unedited story.
