Three Secrets To Take Great Photos of Your Kids
We love taking photos of our babies! They are our pride and joy and with social media, we get to show them off to hundreds of people every single day. They don't even have to do anything special! We just look at them and want to capture all that perfection!
But more often than not, as soon as you get your phone out and the camera app open, they whip around and run off, am I right?
Once my daughter turned four, the minute she saw the phone she was gone. Moment lost.
But years of experience later, and I've learned a few tricks to get those photos of children that I really want.
I'm going to share my three secrets that you can use to get those moments with ease! Are you ready? They're so simple you might spit your coffee out.
1. Don't say ‘look at me!’
...or be still. Or sit down. Or any direction what so ever. I have found in my many years of photographing children as soon as you say anything, the moment you are so keen to capture will be gone. So leave them be. Just quietly take out your phone, open the app, and...
2. Have patience
I know this is the hardest part, but it's 99% of the process. Give them a moment. Wait patiently and observe till they are naturally in the right moment. They will look up again, they will turn around, and they may even make it a better moment. Don’t rush it. Or it will never happen.
More times than not, kids do something in a flash. Want them to repeat it? Laugh.
Natural human behavior dictates that positive reinforcement will strengthen the behavior. Laugh and your kid will do it again for another positive response from you.
***I apologize now - often it will happen again and again and again.... But it works for the picture.
And that’s all folks!! Those are all the three simple secrets I go to to get the perfect moments on camera. They take minimum effort and zero stress - for both you and your kiddo.
