Growing in 2017
Top Five Goals To Grow On
The coach and the kiddo are back in school so it's time to take a moment to set some goals for 2017! With 365 days to do all the things, anything could happen, and it's best to have a little bit of direction.
I try not to create a long list of resolutions, but instead set a few SMART goals that make an impact. Here are my tops five for 2017:
1. Find new locations
During the holiday photo frenzy, I went to check out two locations requested by clients. Now, I've always known Bear Creek Park & Eagle Mountain Park are photo hot spots, but OMG! There were lines to get shots in certain spots and photographers shooting within 20 feet of each other! I don't work well like that, and neither do clients, I've found. It's too distracting- for everyone.
So I resolve to find new, unknown locations with fabulous light for my clients.
2. Provide more information
And YAY! I started this goal in November and it is almost crushed!
I've been working on a digital magazine with information on locations, choosing clothing options, makeup and hair prep for photos, getting kids ready for sessions, what to expect after your session, and how to order prints. I'm developing this with the intent to answer many questions before you even have them and help you be more comfortable and confident prior to your shoot. That being said, if you still have questions, absolutely call me. I'm happy to answer them.
3. Try something new
This goal is both for my photography and for myself. It's so easy to get stuck in a rut. This year I want to mix it up, shake it up, do something different from the norm and be uniquely creative. I like being different.
I want people to understand that from the minute Lady Gaga arrived, she created a new set of rules: being different is good; embrace it.
4. Keep learning
Before my grandmother ended every call with me she would say "learn all you can because that's something nobody can take away from you." She was right. You don't have to go to pay to learn things; all that information is out there for free just waiting for you to read and discover. I always have a stack of books to read, and as the world of digital photography is ever changing, there is always something to learn.
5. Put myself out there!
I can be extremely outgoing; however, I have a tendency to play it safe, keeping to familiar spaces and rarely allowing any vulnerability. Research shows that being vulnerable can greatly impact growth both personally and professionally. Don't be shocked when you see me out there shaking hands and kissing babies. It's my goal! ;)
Vulnerability is not about winning or losing but having the courage to show up and be seen.
